The modern way to straighten teeth

Crooked and misaligned teeth are more than just a cosmetic inconvenience. Misaligned teeth, also known as malocclusion, can cause a number of health problems, including:

  • Difficulty eating

  • Speech issues

  • Increased risk of tooth decay or gum disease

  • Jaw pain and migraines

  • Teeth grinding and damaged, worn teeth

  • Breathing problems

Malocclusion comes in many forms, such as overcrowded teeth, an overbite or underbite, or impacted teeth. It is often caused by thumb sucking, prolonged bottle use or improper development as a child, but can also be the result of facial injuries, tooth loss, or genetics.

The best way to fix malocclusion is through orthodontic treatments such as Invisalign clear braces.

Invisalign Treatment at Pickens Family Dentistry

At Pickens Family Dentistry, we believe in treating the root cause of your oral health issues. Our goal is always to help you keep your natural teeth throughout your life. Aligning and straightening misaligned teeth has been shown to reduce wear and has been correlated with tooth longevity — helping you keep your natural teeth and stay healthy.

Using clear aligners custom-molded to your mouth, Invisalign gently repositions teeth to straighten and align them into the correct position. When you come to our office for an Invisalign consultation, we’ll complete a comprehensive examination and use our high-tech diagnostic tools to ensure Invisalign is the right choice for you. From there, we’ll lay out our recommendation and answer any questions you have about Invisalign.

    DentalMonitoring: Orthodontic appointments made easy

We’re excited to offer our orthodontic patients an alternative to the inconvenient appointments of the past with DentalMonitoring. Instead of having you or your child come in for frequent check-in appointments, Dr. Pickens can check in on your progress digitally with the DentalMonitoring app and provided imaging hardware.

    Here’s how it works:

    1. At your initial appointment, Dr. Pickens will provide you with the necessary hardware for check-in, called the ScanBox. This will allow you to take a photo of your teeth at home using just your smartphone and the DentalMonitoring app. Dr. Pickens will help you get set up with the app and how to use the ScanBox. It is simple to use and you can complete the images at home all by yourself!

    2. Dr. Pickens will have you send in photos regularly using the ScanBox and your mobile device. The photos can be taken anywhere you have an internet connection.

    3. These images will be delivered to Dr. Pickens. He’ll review the images and make sure that treatment is going as planned, filling you in and providing guidance through the app. Occasionally, he will have you come to our office to make adjustments to your braces to ensure treatment is progressing correctly.

    4. Throughout treatment, you’ll be able to track progress with photo lapse technology and communicate any questions you have to Dr. Pickens through the app.

We’re excited for our patients to be able to take advantage of this easy to use and convenient technology that allows a simple and effective orthodontic treatment.

    Our Invisalign Process

    1. Using a custom digital scan and images of the inside of your mouth, we’ll create a set of custom aligners that are finely tuned to your exact needs.

    2. Once crafted, you will wear your aligners for 23 hours daily. The custom clear braces are virtually invisible while being worn and can be easily removed to clean your teeth or eat.

    3. While traditional metal braces require constant visits to the dentist, you will only need to come to our office every 4-8 weeks. When using the My Invisalign app during treatment, we can help support your treatment remotely and require less frequent follow-up appointments.

    4. Treatment will generally last 12-18 months, but a noticeable improvement may be seen in just a couple of months.

This is the best dental office EVER. Honestly, I fly up from Southern California to get my teeth cleaned here and any other dental work done – I absolutely refuse to go anywhere else. Dr. Pickens and the staff are exceptional, and they’ll never, ever push work on you and will always make sure you’re comfortable and understand why any work needs to be done. HIGHLY recommended!

    Invisalign FAQs

    How long does treatment last?

While treatment length will depend on the particulars of your situation, most patients should expect treatment to last 12-18 months. You can often see results within just a couple of months.

How will Invisalign affect my day-to-day life?

One of the largest benefits of Invisalign clear braces is just how unobtrusive they are in your day-to-day life. Aligners should be worn 23 hours a day, and can be removed while eating and brushing your teeth. Since they are custom made for your mouth, you’ll hardly even notice that they’re there!
