Digital Smile Design

Digital Smile Design, or DSD, is a state-of-the-art technique allowing dentists to present their patients with a computerized rendering of what their smile will look like once treatment is completed.

A series of digital photographs, computerized scans and videos are uploaded to a computer and allows dentists to see in real-time and with incredible detail a patient’s bite, how their cheeks and lips rest on their teeth, and more.

The software also allows dentists to move and manipulate the image so many different treatment plans can be tried to find the best method of care for each patient before a drill even touches a tooth in real life.  Patients can create a new smile for themselves or use a photograph to get back the smile they once had.  Shade, shape, and materials can be completely customized based on the patient’s requests and the dentist’s ability to create a smile that is functional and ethical based on those requests.

Digital Smile Design gives a patient an unpreceded opportunity to collaborate with their dentist regarding their own treatment.

DSD allows patients the unprecedented ability to:

  • See in real-time the result that different treatment options will have on the look of their smile, like the difference between veneers, crowns, implants and even dentures. Whitening choices can also be previewed before any work is done.

  • Communicate their ideal smile visually. Not every patient knows the proper dental terminology, but they can ask their dentist to make a tooth longer, smaller, or whiter.

  • Ensure their dentist understands the patient's desires and creates a treatment plan that meets those needs while being functionally sound and ethical.

Digital Smile Design is the result of years of research and development.  We can now directly involve the patient in their own treatment planning and allow them to have a smile that is their own and 100% unique.
