Healthy Snack Pickens Family Dentistry WA 98662-6467Oral health isn't just brushing our teeth and going to see the dentist. It's also what we eat and drink. As they say, you are what you eat. One of the first declines to our health from what we eat is definitely oral health.

All kinds of things can happen from cavities, dental procedures, and even removing bad teeth. That's no fun, so here goes some good ideas on what you can eat and the benefit. Sometimes you just want a snack and don't want to rush to brush your teeth because of something you had to eat or drink.

Healthy Snack Ideas

Knowing what you're eating is very important. Eating produce is good for you for a lot of different reasons, and they all vary, so do a little research. Too often we focus on what's not good for us, but it's a good idea to find things that are good for us and slowly work that into your diet.

If you are a cheese lover, here's some good news. Cheese has calcium and protein that can help to strengthen your teeth. Chewing on hard cheeses can make you produce more saliva. This helps get rid of bacteria that causes tooth decay. While we are on dairy, more food news, yogurt is good for your teeth.

Also packed with calcium and protein. Yogurt also has probiotics, good bacteria, that will help block the bad bacteria. Try to pick out a plain flavor with no added sugar. Last but definitely not least, milk. Milk it a better choice over fruit juice and carbonated beverages. Grab the low fat.

Almonds are a great source of calcium and protein and low in sugar. They can be a great snack by the hand full or throw them on top of a salad. Pumpkin seeds and Brazil nuts contain phosphorus, which helps keep your teeth healthy and strong.

Seafood and tofu also contain calcium. Berries, grapes, raisins and beans are good antioxidants. Antioxidants fight bacteria. To find out more, call our office today!
